The concert was preceded by two pre-concert fanfares. Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man was performed at 8:00pm at the rear of the Shed, and Strauss' Feierlicher Einzug was performed on the Shed Stage at 8:20pm. The Sousa pieces were performed by the winds, brass, and percussion sections of each orchestra. According to the audio recording, the Sousa marches were played in the following order: Semper Fidelis, El Capitan, Gallant Seventh, Thunderer, and Stars and Stripes Forever. According to audio recording, Schuller's Symphonic Tribute to Duke Ellington was performed after the Sousa marches and before the Tchaikovsky works. |
